Samsung N140 is the Rolls Royce of the netbook world
I have had the Samsung N140 now for several weeks and am very pleased with it. The best way to describe it is as a deluxe version of the NC-10. The first thing that strikes you on opening it up is how different it looks from both the NC-10 and N110 : it has a good-quality, superbright non-glossy wide screen which looks far more chic than its predecessors; the silver edges give it an expensive-looking appearance and it seems stronger than the NC-10 as well as being more lightweight and without the finger-smudging problem. It has a fabulous 6-cell battery that SAMSUNG claims might be able to last for up to 11 hours. This is something of an exaggeration, but you should be able to get around 7+ hours out of it and more if you upgrade it to a 9-cell one. Its wifi is the best currently on the market since it can cope with b, g and also N. It has quite good speakers for its size and easily copes with BBC iplayer and their equivalents. Its RAM memory is 800MHz and not 667MHZ as you find on the NC-10. It should therefore be faster. However, you would be advised to upgrade it to 2Gb as there are times when it can appear slow. When you are in battery mode, the power settings are set to maximise battery life which means a reduction in performance which can lead to problems when watching online TV. However, you can resolve the problem by changing the power options to normal or even maximum performance. The battery life is long even when on maximum performance in my experience. I am very satisfied with my netbook and made the right choice in buying this one after waiting so long for a proper non-glossy, fast-wifi model to appear on the market and voilà, here it is...... Excellent netbook
This notebook scores high in many online reviews and having bought it I can agree and see why so many other people rate it so highly. It really is small, easy to carry around and use. The battery life is very good at about 5 hours and it has an excellent near full size keyboard. It loads fast and as I will not load it up with too many programmes, mainly using it for word processing and internet, it will continue have a fast response in windows and boot up. The only thing people should be aware of is that the speakers are tiny for volume but, when needed, I just use light headphones. The latest netbooks may have the usual latest features and specs but this netbook will be around for a long time and is also excellent with Windows7 loaded on it...... Read more

Excellent The function to put the session in memory and put the computer in a low power state so you can resume working is very helpful for someone like me, who often has lots of windows open and leaves a number of projects half completed overnight. It was a real pain on my old machine re-starting and then manually re-opening the webpages I was drawing on and the Word documsnts I was editing. First impressions
Arrived this morning and it is a great looking little netbook so I will be sad to return it to Amazon becuase of a faulty wireless card. I can only reach 24Mbps wireless connection, even when connected to an N router. Samsung tried to help but simply suggested i return it as faulty.
I will have another one, the extra 1″ on the screen makes a big difference when sitting next to my NC10, so don’t be put off, i just hope yours works better than mine. I’m sure the next one wil be fine. The good points are the design, the screen, the keyboard, the weight etc etc, just this one thing that let’s my machine down.
Time for Amazon to display their first class returns policy i think...... Read more

ok at first but beware
For the first couple of days everything worked well but after I loaded a few things on it, the start up became much slower and the Web button, which worked fine, now works intermitently and I don’t use it anymore. I raised this with Sony helpdesk and they were unhelpful in the extreme. Also, I can’t load images from my CF card because I can’t find a reader that is compatible with the 64-bit processors and the software supplied with my camera is not compatible with Windows 7. There is a pdf of the user manual on the hard drive but ironically, you are unlikely to find it until you have learnt how the computer works first...... Read more
